Phoenix, New York Central School District - the 1967 Phoenician - Part 1 of 3

Submitted by Charles Beams (1/16/2014)

The photocopies of this 1967 Phoenician cover 176 photographs - and are spread over three posts.

Commentary: It probably won't mean much to most viewers of this Yearbook, but I note the first appearance of Robert Howe (not related to Harry Howe, Superintendent) as Business Administrator. Beginning with the 1968-69 school year, Phoenix engaged in its very first contract negotiations with the teachers under the newly enacted Taylor Law. Beginning in 1971-72, Mr. Howe and I negotiated about ten of the early district/teacher contracts together (he for the district, I for the teachers). He was an incredibly great guy with a decent sense of humor  and a penchant for practical jokes.

This yearbook was dedicated to Tom Pierce, Audio-Visual Director.

I also make note of the fact that this high school yearbook continued to cover the new Junior High School. The Junior High had it's own memory book for this year (CLICK HERE TO VIEW), but that book did not cover the freshman class in as much detail as the high school book. It's hard to tell if it was well known that the 9th grade would remain at the Junior High only until 1970, of it they were planning on continuing this dual coverage of yearbooks for quite some time.

On to the 1967 Phoenician...
