Phoenix, New York Central School District - the 1952 Phoenician

Submitted by Charles Beams (12/7/2014)

I photocopied this entire yearbook using my camera and I think it works a little better - but it takes a lot more time. Once I get back to my computer, I have to straighten, crop, lighten and sort all of the photos - time consuming.

In the 1952 yearbook, the students chose to present the data as if this were a Playbill for a TV show. You'll see what I mean once you get into it.

The cover was paper and there was some wear - also it was rebound with a heavy binding and the cover was sealed in plastic.

Title page - broadcasting the show...

Amazing - the architects' rendering of two new schools to be built in the Phoenix Central School District. Centralization!

Dedication - Miss Smith and Miss Beard...

Tribute to Mrs. Van Doren and a thank you to Gid...

Board of Education - Doris Allanson, Hillard Cook, Mrs. Emerson Dillon, Jack Luke, William McClatchie, Addison Chesbro, Wayne Huntley, Lewis Olmstead, William Hilborn, Francis Church, Elijah Henderson.

In keeping withn the TV production theme, the administration is offered under the title of "Producer." Not the first appearance of Harry Howe, later Superintendent of the district.

Yearbook staffers offered as "technicians."

The faculty (directors) pages ... I have broken the text pages into smaller bites so they can be read more easily...

The Stars - aka Senior class

The big story - or, the history of the senior class. Again, I broke the longer pages into smaller bites to make it easier to read in this format.

High-schoolers as infants...

Candids...

It wasn't clear, from the labeling done in the yearbook, but I think this is the Junior class. Grades 8-11 were pictured, the lower grades were not.

More candid photos...

Sorry for the curvature in these photos, but the tight rebinding of the book made it impossible to lay the pages flat, thus causing the distortion.

And there were multiple pages of sports teams and clubs...

Staff candid photos...

And pages and pages of ads - just a sampling here. Check out the phone number on the very last ad.
