Phoenix, New York Central School District - the 1951 Phoenician

Submitted by Charles Beams (12/6/2014)

Just a note - because of the difficulty of scanning these year books (located in the Phoenix Public Library), this post includes only selected pages.

The cover of 1951 Phoenician from Phoenix, NY...

The dedication - Irving E Noakes, phys ed director for 21 years...

The Board of Education - Lewis Olmstead, Mrs. Emerson J Dillon, Doris Allanson, Francis Church, Jack Luke, Arthur Ward, Charles Sauers, Frank Richards, William Hilbourn

Mr. Birdlebough (principal) and Mrs. Hiler (secretary)

The yearbook staff...

Faculty - in order to make this more easily viewed, I have cropped 3 pages of photos and text into smaller partial pages. I'd like to make note of a couple of folks I got to know pretty well during my tenure in the district (1969-2002), including Hank Floch and Vince Castiglione, The text makes note of Vince's marriage to a former and future (from the perspective of this yearbook) teacher, Bev Savage Castiglione. See the 1950 yearbook for a refere3nce to both.

Some candid photos...

The senior class officers...

In this yearbook the students made it a little more difficult to present the senior class in a format such as this blog post - photos on one page and names and data on the facing page. I've presented each set as a two page scan - and immediately following, each page separately for easier viewing.

The yearbook included group photos of all of the underclassmen - just a sample...

All of the groups and activities are represented in the yearbook - and there were a TON of them...

Sports teams were represented and results were given for teams that had completed their season at time of publication...

A few literary pieces written by students were presented - just one example...

More candid photos...

The ads. Take particular notice of the amusement park ad - some discussion of this has taken place on the Phoenix, NY Memories page on Facebook...
