Phoenix, New York Central School District - the 1947 Phoenician

Submitted by Charles Beams (12/;2/2014)

This is NOT a complete scan of the 1947 Phoenix (NY) school yearbook - it is only about 50% of the book, but it represents a fair collection of the material therein. Because I am using a hand scanner, and because I am not dismantling the books, and because the binding of the yearbook forces a bubble at the center when the book is open, there are shadows and distortions on the pages. Still, a fair amount of the material can be read.

The 1947 yearbook returns to a softcover publication, but the pages begin to look professionally done: print instead of handwriting to identify students, pages printed double-sided, heavier paper and it includes group photos of all grade levels, K-11 with individual photos for seniors.

Inside the book cover, a Mrs. Corson's name is written - I would suspect it was her book that was donated to the library. In the 1960's memory books from the new EJD middle school (1966-67 and others) the National Junior Honor Society in Phoenix is called the "Carolyn Corson Chapter." I don't know if that designation is still used in the district.

The cover of the 1947 yearbook...

Opening page - no name given for the custodian in the photo...

The Yearbook Staff...

Dedication - miss Widger, Mr. Birdlebough

Faculty...

Board of Education...

Senior class - 29 students

Senior class history...

Senior class tribute to faculty...

Phoenix Activities Association...

Chorus - was EVERYBODY in it?

Homemaking Club, Red Cross Club and Press club - three of the many activities shown in the yearbook...

Soccer - one of the many sports shown in the yearbook...

Candid photos show a little of life around and outside of school.
And the advertisements - I post almost all of them for the view they give us of the village...

The senior class will - always good for a chuckle...
