Phoenix, New York Central School District - the 1948 Phoenician

Submitted by Charles Beams (12/3/2014)

As I continue to attempt to gather some history for the Phoenix (NY) High School Yearbooks, I am coming to the conclusion that there is simply no good way to photocopy the pages short of breaking the binding (which I certainly won't do). Photos and text close to the binding are going to get distorted whether I scan or photograph. Still, these copies are better than nothing.

The 1948 Phoenician had a hard cover (I have lightened the cover extensively as the green was VERY dark and difficult to read).

JC Birdlebough was a noted lover of clocks and rumor has it that when the time changed to a new hour, the cacophony in his home from all of the chimes, birds, whistles and what-have-you was something to behold. The dedication of the yearbook...

Some history of the schools and the famous bell, now on display in the foyer of the newest addition to EJD Middle School (a school that did not exist until 1964).

Speak of the devil - difficulty scanning - the Yearbook Staff...

Faculty...

The school board...

The senior class (31 students)...

The basketball team...

Some candid photos...

And some ads I thought were of interest...

And the queen and her court...
