Phoenix, New York Central School District - the 1950 Phoenician

Submitted by Charles Beams (12/5/2014)

I continue to struggle to find ways to get the best possible photocopy of the old yearbook pages. Today I felt the camera was doing a better job - not quite as much contrast in the text, but much clearer copies (see senior photos) of the pictures of people - and that's mostly what we're interested in. I'll continue to experiment with the camera and lighting.

Now, the Phoenix High School (actually grades K-12) Yearbook of 1950...

This signature inside the cover begs the question - is it Mrs. Corson the teacher or the Corson Photography Studio donating these yearbooks to the library. Or - are they one and the same?

Title pages - dreaming of the day mankind would travel into space...

The dedication to Mrs. Paris and Miss Beard. It's interesting to note that the Junior Class is doing the yearbook.

School photo in the snow and the Alma Mater - but always the snow. It is Phoenix, after all.

The Board of Education -  Charles Sauer, Berton Sweet, Alice Kinney, Robert Wood, William Hilborn, Mrs. Emerson J. Dillon, Beulah Hutchinson, and Carl Morehouse.

Mr. Birdlebough is Supervising Principal for the district. Mrs. Hiler is secretary.

The yearbook staff...

The faculty - notice how their photos are arranged in the shape of the letter P?

 Faculty description...

The Senior Class (35 students)...

Candid photos ...

Class history...

Class prophecy...

They do have photos of the other classes, but it is difficult to scan them well.

K - 8 faculty...

Lots of groups show up in the yearbooks - some rather unusual by today's standards. And so many kids in each - you have to wonder if it was considered part of the school day to be in a club or activity.

And the sports - featuring football in this posting...

Ads continue to highlight activities in the village.
