Aura A Cole

Aura Cole was District Superintendent for an area that included the Phoenix, New York Schools from 1916 (according to her great-niece, Nora Colbert Ostrander, Aura was just 20 years old) through 1964. Although centered in Central Square, NY (a neighboring school district), she had a profound influence over the Phoenix District for 48 years. She passed away in 1988.

The only online biography I have been able to find so far is a PDF document posted on the Central Square School District web pages. This document was written in 1971 by Lena Cleveland for the Oswego County Retired Teachers Association. I'm not sure if the document is covered by copyright or not, so I did not duplicate it here. Instead, you can read the original by clicking

and you will need to have a PDF reader installed on your device (Adobe Acrobat Reader on a computer, not sure about other devices such as phones and tablets).

And below I have captured and posted a few of her images from the Phoenix High School Yearbooks.

This is the first photo I could find of her, from the 1954 Phoenician - she is seated to the right of JCB.

In the 1955 Phoenician, this fitting tribute was posted above the photo of Mr. Birdlebough.

And this photo is from the 1962 Phoenician.
